The Township of Drummond/North Elmsley recognizes three employees for 10 years of service.
The Township recognises employees for their dedicated service and the contributions they make to the Township during the course of their employment. Awards are given to celebrate length of service to highlight each individual and the contributions of each employee being recognised.
Three staff members received 10 year long-term services awards on December 20, 2019

(ORILLIA, ON) - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) invite citizens to consider using Online Reporting - a secure, simple and convenient tool to report minor crimes.
In 2018, the OPP Provincial Communications Centres (PCC) received over two million 9-1-1, non-emergency and administrative calls. Of these, officers were dispatched to approximately 1.05 million occurrences. An increased use of Online Reporting will allow our frontline officers to focus efforts on urgent calls and crime prevention strategies within our communities.
Crimes that are eligible for Online Reporting are occurrences that include:
- Theft Under $5000;
- Mischief / Damage to Property Under $5000;
- Mischief / Damage to Vehicle Under $5000;
- Theft from Vehicle;
- Lost / Missing Property Under $5000;
- Stolen License Plates; and
- Driving Complaints (after the occurrence)
Online Reporting is a user friendly process that can be completed from any mobile device, laptop, tablet or computer with internet access. To access the system, a user can go to opp.ca/reporting, choose their location and click on Start a Report. This will take the user to a secure link where they will be given precise instructions on how to fill out the report.

Recreation Master Plan
Township of Drummond/North Elmsley, Tay Valley Township, and the Town of Perth - Joint Recreation Master Plan
The Township of Drummond/North Elmsley, Tay Valley Township, and the Town of Perth are embarking on the preparation of a joint Recreation Master Plan to guide the municipalities’ direction in planning recreational facilities and services. Sierra Planning and Management has been commissioned to develop the Master Plan. The principal objectives of the project are to determine community priorities and develop a series of recommendations and action steps to accommodate the current and future recreational needs of the three municipalities. The Plan will guide future investment in facilities, programs, services and partnerships.

Mississippi Lake Flooding Disaster Recovery Assistance Program Activated
On Wednesday, May 30, the Township of Drummond/North Elmsley was notified that the Province of Ontario has activated the Disaster Relief Assistance for Ontarians (DRAO) program for areas within the municipality affected by recent flooding. The approved areas within Drummond/North Elmsley include all properties around Mississippi Lake and those along the Mississippi River. A PDF map is available here.
Only full-time residences can qualify for funding through the DRAO program, and funding caps apply to most types of household items. Further details on registration for the program can be found on the Ontario government website.
Separate application forms are available for Homeowners and Tenants, or for Small Businesses, Not- for-Profit Organizations and Farms. These can be found here.

Flood Outlook — Lower Ottawa River
April 11, 2025
This Flood Outlook Statement is an update to the Flood Outlook Statement issued for areas along the Lower Ottawa River (Arnprior to Hawkesbury) on March 19th, 2025.
Water levels and flows have generally stabilized in all locations along the main stretch of the Ottawa River. With the return of warmer temperatures this weekend and forecasted rainfall, water levels and flows are expected to increase due to snow melt combined with rainfall runoff.
Levels are expected to rise over the next few days in all locations. The snowpack melt in the northern part of the basin is expected to continue over the next few weeks.
While there are currently no significant flooding indicators, it is still too early to forecast peak river conditions which remain dependent on snowmelt and rainfall volume and timing.
Residents in flood-prone areas are encouraged to closely follow changing conditions and to take the necessary precautionary measures, as required. Residents are advised to stay away from watercourses where flows are high and where banks might be unstable. Parents are encouraged to explain dangers to children and provide appropriate supervision around all waterbodies.
The Mississippi Valley, Rideau Valley, and South Nation Conservation Authorities monitor water levels and weather forecasts with the Ministry of Natural Resources as part of the
Flood Forecasting and Warning Program. Updates are provided as conditions change.
The Ottawa River Regulating Committee will be reassessing forecast conditions and
providing hydrological condition updates on its website daily at www.ottawariver.ca/forecasts.

A Watershed Conditions Statement is NOT a flood warning. Its purpose is to raise public awareness about a change or potential change in watershed conditions.
See below for watershed conditions terminology:
Watershed Conditions Statement: General notice of weather conditions that could pose a risk to personal safety or which have the potential to lead to flooding. There are two variations of these:
- Water Safety Statement: High flows, unsafe banks, melting ice or other factors could be dangerous for recreational users such as anglers, canoeists, hikers, children, pets, etc. Flooding is not expected.
- Flood Outlook Statement: Early notice of the potential for flooding based on weather forecasts calling for heavy rain, snow melt, high wind or other conditions that could lead to high runoff, cause ice jams, lakeshore flooding or erosion.
Flood Watch: Flooding is possible in specific watercourses or municipalities. Municipalities, emergency services and individual landowners in flood-prone areas should prepare.
Flood Warning: Flooding is imminent or already occurring in specific watercourses or municipalities. Municipalities and individuals should act to deal with flood conditions. This may include road closures and evacuations.

Declaration of Interest Registry
Changes to the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act require municipalities to maintain a registry of all declarations made under this Act. The registry must include the original written declaration provided by the member of Council and must be available to the public.

John Matheson
John Matheson is a newly elected Deputy Reeve. John was born and raised on a family farm in Drummond Township.
John farmed in Drummond Centre were he proudly raised his 3 sons while working for 34 years at Brewers Retail, after retiring John and his wife Ewa moved to a new home on the Tennyson Road.
John was a director of the Cattlemans Association, president of the Perth Blue Wings Junior B team, a member and volunteer of the Perth Civitan, and volunteer for minor hockey and baseball.
I feel privileged to have been elected to serve the good people of DNE.
